Definitely a 5 Star Month ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

August turned out to be such a satisfying reading month. I didn’t go into it with a theme, but somehow my stack ended up full of emotional journeys, small-town secrets, and the kind of character relationships that make me want to curl up with a latte and keep reading. Here’s a look at everything I read this month—and what I thought about each one.

🩷Piece by Piece — Rachel Hanna ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was the perfect book to start my month. Rachel Hanna consistently delivers gentle, heartfelt Southern charm, and Piece by Piece was no exception. It’s emotional in a quiet way—the kind that truly sneaks up on you. I loved watching the characters rebuild, reconnect, and discover strength in the small moments. It felt like a warm hug in book form.

💛 Working Class Hero — Kay Bratt ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kay Bratt writes characters who feel real—flawed, hopeful, and resilient—and Working Class Hero is a beautiful testament to that skill. This story, rich with grit and heart, had me rooting for its characters from the very first chapter. It’s an honest, grounded read that resonates long after the final page.

🛻 Trailer Trash — Denise Grover Swank ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book surprised me with its emotional depth. Trailer Trash finally opens up Neely Kate’s past in a way that allowed me to understand her so much more deeply. While the beginning is a little slow, once it settles in, the story becomes vulnerable, powerful, and full of heart. And Jed’s quiet, steady support? Absolutely perfect. This one was a standout for me.

🌾 In High Cotton — Denise Grover Swank ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I really enjoyed this one. It has that perfect mix of mystery and heart that Denise Grover Swank does so well. I adore Jed and Neely Kate together—their dynamic is supportive, gentle, and full of unspoken connection. And Neely Kate’s relationship with her newly discovered half-brother Joe? I loved every bit of it. My only tiny pet peeve: she refers to a gun’s magazine as a clip. It’s a magazine. But even with that little hiccup, this was such a great read.

💵 Dirty Money — Denise Grover Swank ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This one kept me turning pages. The stakes feel higher, the tension tighter, and Neely Kate’s growth really shines. I loved seeing her step into her own strength while still holding onto the relationships that matter most. It’s fast-paced, engaging, and a great continuation of her story.

☕ Final Thoughts

August was full of small-town heartfelt moments, emotional growth, and captivating mysteries. From Rachel Hanna’s gentle storytelling to Denise Grover Swank’s character-driven suspense, this month’s reads were exactly what I needed.

I’m already excited for September — hopefully for more cozy nights, more good stories, and maybe a few surprises along the way.

Piece by Piece by Rachel Hanna South Carolina Sunsets, Book 13

“I wish I had known you all my life, so I wouldn’t have wasted so much time without you.”

Piece by Piece is exactly why I fell in love with Rachel Hanna’s storytelling all those books ago. The very first book I ever read from her was The Beach House, and it’s still my favorite — but this newest installment reminds me why this series continues to feel like home.

This book follows Liz and Grant, two complete opposites who somehow fit together perfectly. Liz arrives in Seagrove after a painful experience at work, one she’s not ready to talk about. She slips quietly into town to help Dixie at the bookstore, pouring her energy into the children’s section while trying to rebuild her confidence piece by piece.

Next door is Grant, the quiet, puzzle‑loving shop owner with a secret of his own. He’s reserved, private, and definitely not a “joiner.” Liz, on the other hand, is sunshine and chatter and big ideas — including her plan to combine books and puzzles into a community event she calls Books & Brains. Grant isn’t thrilled, but watching Liz gently nudge him out of his shell is one of the sweetest slow-burn arcs in the series.

And of course, one of my favorite parts: we get to catch up with old friends. Julie and Dawson — the couple who started it all — make an appearance, and it feels like checking in on family. Dixie (who doesn’t love Dixie?), SuAnne, and Janine all bring that familiar Seagrove charm that makes this town feel like somewhere I genuinely want to move to.

This story is warm, comforting, and full of heart. It’s about secrets, healing, unexpected connection, and finding the courage to start again. It’s the kind of book you think about long after you finish it — the characters linger, the town wraps around you, and the romance unfolds in that signature Rachel Hanna slow-burn way that makes you smile.

I’ve loved Seagrove since the very first book, and Piece by Piece feels like catching up with old friends while meeting new ones you can’t help but love. I’m already looking forward to the next book coming out next year.

I just finished The Midlife Birthday Club, and honestly, Rachel Hanna has done it again! She always knows how to write characters that feel like real people, and this book was no exception

This is a heartfelt, funny, and inspiring story about three women who have been friends for thirty years and are all turning fifty. Rather than letting life pass them by, they decide it’s time to shake things up. They form a “birthday club” with a pact: once a month for an entire year, they will commit to doing something that completely scares them. As they tackle these monthly challenges, Harper, Claire, and Nina are forced to face their personal insecurities and past heartaches. It’s a testament to the enduring power of friendship and finding the courage to step outside your comfort zone, no matter your age.

Though I haven’t shared the specific life experiences of these women, their stories took me on a full emotional journey. I laughed, I cried, and I spent much of the book imagining myself trying to keep up with their monthly adventures—most of which I certainly couldn’t pull off (especially the last one)! Nevertheless, I wish I could learn to “let go” the way they did; watching their growth was truly inspiring.

Each woman in this book faces her own personal struggles, and together they find the strength to overcome them, make necessary life changes, and learn to trust again. They discover that stepping outside their comfort zones is essential to achieving the life they deserve. This book offers valuable lessons on trust, marriage, and moving forward after a devastating loss. I believe there is something for everyone to take away from this book.

If you enjoy books that you can relate to that are equal parts funny, emotional, & heartfelt, you will love getting to know Clair, Harper & Nina.

Rachel Hanna has done it again. She has written a book that makes me smile, laugh, and cry all at the same time. This book was a definite five-star read for me—one of those stories that not only entertains but also gently settles into your heart.

A polished etiquette expert inherits a rundown small-town bar in the small town of Copper Creek. There is a catch: she is required to stay for 6 months and live in the apartment over the bar. What follows is a cozy, emotional journey of starting over, finding community, and discovering what truly matters.

This book resonated with me on a personal level. The idea of leaving everything behind and starting anew somewhere fresh is a dream of mine, and this story made it feel attainable.

I loved Eleanor’s growth, the small-town charm, and the slow-burn romance. It’s one of those books that lingers with you long after you put the book down. The small-town feel and the relatable community members come together to make Eleanor feel at home. The story is filled with humor, friendship, acceptance, second chances, and the discovery of love and a home where you least expect it.

If you love cozy, emotional stories about second chances and fresh starts… this one is a must-read.

I always get excited when Rachel Hanna releases a new book. I love her series because it feels like visiting old friends, but I also enjoy when she starts a new series, as it allows me to meet new friends. The Wexley Inn was no exception; I was captivated by Isabella and Thomas’ story from the very first page.

When Isabella learns that The Wexley Inn is for sale, she feels it’s time to pursue her dream of opening a Bed & Breakfast in the South Carolina Lowcountry. The Inn has been vacant for some time and is in dire need of repairs and updates. She needs to update it to modern standards while preserving its history, so she requires the right contractor for the job.. As she begins the renovation process, she sets out to find the right contractor.. To her surprise, the contractor recommended to her turns out to be her first love, who left her 30 years ago with no explanation. As Isabella and Thomas work together to renovate the Inn, will old sparks reignite, or has the chemistry they once shared faded away? Could the secret Thomas has kept for decades about why he disappeared jeopardize their chances of rekindling an old romance? In a small town, secrets don’t stay hidden for long, especially among the Lowcountry Women’s Club, where gossip spreads faster than sweet tea at a church potluck.

Rachel has done it again by creating a new series with characters that I am already invested in and can’t wait to see what else transpires with the Lowcountry Women’s Club. This deserves every bit of the 5 stars I gave it plus some.

Wisteria Wedding is a great addition to the Wisteria Island series. I loved this book from the very first page and couldn’t put it down. Reconnecting with the residents of Wisteria Island and discovering Clara’s story was a delightful experience. The characters of this unique retirement island are truly captivating, and you can’t help but fall in love with them—especially Morty!

I first fell in love with Danielle and Bennett in the first book in the series when Danielle moves to Wisteria Island as the island nurse. Although she and Bennett, clashed initially, I sensed there was a deeper connection between them, and now, in the third book, they are on their way to the altar.

Danielle and Bennett’s journey to the altar is far from smooth, which only adds to its charm. They encounter quirky island residents with “helpful” intentions and unexpected family drama. Danielle’s mother arrives on the island with her mind already made up: Bennett is not the right man for her daughter, and she strongly opposes the wedding taking place here. For years, she has envisioned her daughter’s wedding, and this island does not match her dreams.

As a side story, we meet Clara, a new resident who has recently moved to Wisteria Island following the death of her beloved husband. While she is still mourning her loss, the residents warmly embrace her, helping her feel like an integral part of the community.

If you enjoy quirky characters, unexpected friendships, and mother-daughter relationships set against the backdrop of a stunning island, all woven into a beautiful love story, you’ll absolutely Love Wisteria Wedding. This story will leave you believing in happily ever after.

Luna Mason’s journey to establish a wellness center and find her place in the community is truly inspiring. Her compassion and determination make it easy to support her success. Archer Hawk, who starts off resistant but ultimately experiences a transformation, adds depth and emotional resonance to the story. The evolution of their relationship feels authentic and deeply satisfying, keeping readers engaged from start to finish.

The author’s storytelling is captivating, striking a perfect balance between heartfelt moments and unexpected twists. Readers will immediately connect with the vibrant community of Seagrove and its charming characters. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the series or a newcomer, Serenity at Seagrove is a must-read that will leave you feeling uplifted and yearning for your own seaside getaway! From the very first book in the series, I’ve wished I could move to Seagrove!

While this book can be enjoyed as a standalone , I recommend starting with the first book in the series, The Beach House. Several characters from earlier books appear here, so reading them in order will enhance your understanding of the characters

From the very first page, I was captivated by the lively characters, vivid descriptions, and engaging storyline that transported me to the small Southern town of Jubilee. Rachel is a remarkable storyteller, skillfully weaving together themes of friendship, love, and resilience to create a heartwarming tale of new opportunities, forgiveness, and understanding.

When a new restaurant opens in Julblee, Coop, the owner of the local diner, worries that it will negatively impact his business. Imagine Coop’s dismay upon discovering that his daughter, Whitney, has befriended the owner of the new restaurant. This leads him to believe she has turned to the “dark side,” creating a significant rift between them. Whitney also has her own dreams of starting a business, which her dad does not support. She must decide between her father, her aspirations, and her growing feelings for the new restaurant owner, whom her dad views as the enemy.

We also have the opportunity to catch up with other residents of Jubilee, such as Madelaine and Brady, which is always enjoyable.

Grits & Grievances is more than just a story; it’s an experience that keeps you feeling uplifted and connected to the characters long after you’ve turned the last page. If you enjoy stories centered on family, friendship, love, dreams, and commitment, all set in a charming small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains, you will love this new installment in the Jubilee series. Having read all of Rachel Hanna’s books, I can confidently say she consistently delivers. She has crafted another wonderful story, and I can’t wait to see what she writes next.

Rachel has once again delivered with “Christmas on Waverly Lane.” As the second installment in the Waverly Lane series, it continues to captivate. While it’s uncertain if more books will follow, I sincerely hope they do. I’m completely hooked on this community and their friendships, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

From the very first page, I was captivated by the heartwarming stories of Shelby, Reed, Cami, Lacy, Joan, and Willadeene. Rachel  has a way of weaving together the lives of these characters, making the reader feel as if you are  part of their close-knit community. Shelby and Reed’s Christmas wedding is beautifully depicted, even though it didn’t quite go as planned, it couldn’t have been more perfect. Cami’s journey of starting over is both inspiring and relatable. Lacy’s exciting news and Joan’s preparations for her first family Christmas in years add layers of joy and anticipation to the story. And of course, Willadeene, who has an unexpected and unwanted guest, is always a delight who adds a touch of humor. These women are willing to do anything for each other. Their friendship is one that will endure through the ages.

This book is a perfect blend of romance, friendship, and holiday cheer. It’s a must-read for anyone looking to get into the festive spirit and enjoy a heartwarming tale of love, friendship and community.

The Baking Games by Rachel Hanna

This book is a bit different than what I am used to from Rachel Hanna. This is like a slow burn Hallmark type RomCom mixed with a reality show. I have read all of Rachel’s books and I love everything she has written but I must admit, this is my least of hers.

Savannah Struggles to make ends meet. She was raised by a drug addicted mom, and She practically raised herself along with her younger sister. Her mom died when her sister was 12 years old so Savannah took on the job of mom. She adores her younger sister and there isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her. She works at a bakery in a grocery store and even though she loves baking, she doesn’t like her job. It doesn’t give her the creative control she craves. She dreams of someday owning her own bakery and earning enough money to finally send her sister to college. She starts to think it is hopeless until her sister convinces her to apply to be on a reality TV show called The Baking Game. When her application is accepted, she is surprised to find an ex-rival along with her ex-boyfriend are also contestants. This causes a lot of friction along the way. This is a baking version of Big Brother ao there is a lot drama and at times sparks do fly.

Even though this was a cute book, it isn’t what I am used to by Ms. Hanna. It was a little confusing that the story was told from two different points of view which was a bit different for me. Luckily it was told whose point of view it was so I didn’t get too confused. It started out good, Savannah is funny, and I immediately liked her and her devotion to her younger sister. I like slow burns to some degree, but this one seemed just way too slow. I didn’t really find myself pulling for them like I normally do in a romance novel. I just couldn’t see the chemistry.

The reality show’s actual baking portion became a little boring with all the recipe explanations and baking techniques. it just seemed to drag on too long. The characters are well developed, and I liked Savannah. She is funny, sweet, loving & loyal to those she loves. Even though she has had a tough life, she is a very positive person and looks at the glass as half full. I didn’t like Rhett at first, but he did grow on me. He has a bit of an unhappy relationship with his parents and a secret he is hiding. I didn’t like Connor at all but we really aren’t supposed to. The other contestants aren’t very memorable, but I did like Maggie.

If you enjoy a slow burn RomCom with a baking themed reality show, then you will probably enjoy this book. Be sure to download the bonus at the end of the book. it gives character descriptions and recipes that were used in the baking competition.
